With 13 days left to get our “Summer Body” right in time, we were excited to take the indoor cycling class at CycleBar in Davie. It’s good to switch up your work out routine sometimes and keep your body guessing. It’s EVEN better when the class is called Wine Down Wednesday, because what’s more rewarding than a glass of wine???😜
We arrived 25 minutes prior to the 7 o’clock class, although they recommend to arrive at least 15 minutes early. If it’s your first time, then definitely make sure to get there a bit early, as this will allow you time to talk to the instructor/staff members and get help setting up your bike. They had cubbies that had every rider’s specific shoe size arranged by the corresponding assigned bike number. After we grabbed our shoes, we headed over to the back to safely store our belongings in the lockers and fill up our complimentary CycleBar water bottle.
Once we were done prepping, we went into the “CycleTheater” to our assigned bikes, which all had complimentary towels to use during the class. Our “CycleStar” instructor, Laura, walked around prior to starting the class to make sure everyone was comfortable. We appreciated that because it can sometimes be intimidating to go up to an instructor and ask for help. It was then time for the class to begin. Laura acknowledged the crazy non-stop rain we’ve had in South Florida the past few days (i.e. flooding😩) and assured us that her playlist would get us in a summer state of mind. The “CycleBeats” playlists are readily available on their website via Spotify. She was really fun as she danced and rode along to the beat and cue based on the music, which had great variety, sound, volume and definitely helped to keep us motivated once the spinning got hard (which in our case, was pretty immediate 😅). We were led through a variety of climbs, jumps, and even some upper body workouts during the 50 minute class. The lighting changed along with the music which was perfect, especially for those who like to zone out. CycleBar has massive screens full of everyone’s stats like RPM, Power and more. It was really neat to check the Stats board to see how we were doing and give that extra push. However, the stats weren’t always kept on the screen, so it was nice that it served more as a periodic check-in as opposed to feeling worried about always competing with others. Our CycleStar was super motivating, knew how to bring the energy and keep it there for the entire class. We ended the class with our legs feeling like jello, enjoyed our glass of wine, and received an email with our CycleStats – which gave us our individual Class Rank, estimated Calories Burned, Avg/Max RPMs and Avg/Max WATTs.
Spinning has definitely gained a resurgence in popularity, and with spin studios popping up all around the country, there’s no shortage of places to get those RPMs high. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at CycleBar from the moment we walked in. They really catered to each and every rider, making it so that you could literally just show up and they would provide almost everything you need for a luxurious workout experience, without the high price tag. In regards to classes, you have the option to try several different classe: a classic 50-minute ride, a performance class that uses the CycleStats, a “connect” ride which involves no video screens, and themed rides. The company is currently expanding, with new locations in Doral, opening on June 26th, and Aventura, opening soon in October 2017. We’ll be at the Grand Opening in Doral on July 13th, so stop by and say hi!
