Earlier this month, we got together at The W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale to celebrate our first blogiversary. Yay!!! It has been quite the whirlwind since we decided on November 2015 that we should collaborate together and create what is now our pride and joy, BRNZ! It was very exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time starting the blog with no idea where this would lead us. We’ve learned and achieved so much over the past year and this “little” blog has grown into so much more than we could have ever imagined as well. It has been serious hard work, though, and not without its struggles.
Here are some of the most important lessons we’ve learned from 1 year of blogging and we hope it can help any of you out on your journey to become a blogger!
We probably don’t need to state the obvious on how important social media is, BUT if you’re not already on social media, get to it, after reading this post of course 😜. We personally focus on these 4 social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and recently Pinterest. Unfortunately, creating a social media account and hoping that people will find you won’t cut it. You definitely need to set time aside to be present, post consistently, figure out where your audience is present and start engaging with them.
That being said, new bloggers have a tendency to focus on numbers, which we definitely did and still tend to; like how many followers you have, how many page views or likes. It’s all very natural, but it’s just not very productive. Instead, try to focus on getting a few engaged followers who like your blog, read/comment on posts rather than having a high number who don’t.
We cannot stress the importance of interacting with other bloggers. By simply checking out their blogs, social media or blogging communities, commenting and sharing their posts and being genuinely interested, you develop a relationship with experienced bloggers who – if you’re lucky – return the love, too. As duo bloggers in South Florida, we joined the local blogging community, South Florida Bloggers. This was probably the best choice we’ve made as bloggers. Not only is it a way to connect with the community of bloggers in our area, but they also host super informative monthly meet ups on various blogger topics and inform you about brand collaboration and sponsorship opportunities.
If you’ve been following us for a while and you’re thinking about starting your own blog, our BEST ADVICE to you: Just do it!
So what’s next for BRNZ? Well, we have a few ideas which we will be telling you about over the coming weeks and months- but probably the thing we are most excited about is starting our YouTube Channel.
We can’t even begin to express the depth of gratitude we feel for each and every one of you. YOU have inspired and motivated US, with every comment, like, message and face to face meeting.
Here’s to another AMAZING year ahead!
